Elvis Extravaganza 2012
This past weekend, I attended a really cool event at the Florida State Fairgrounds. The event is called the Elvis Extravaganza and it has been going on for at least 6 years at the fairgrounds. We saw and met about 30 ETA’s (Elvis Tribute Artists) and a lot of fans from all over the world.
It was really cool to listen to all of the stories of the fans too, remembering their special time when they saw or met Elvis. We got there at around 1pm and they had two one hour shows, at 3pm and at 6pm. We stayed in the theater the whole time. Who could leave with so many awesome Elvis fans around. They had vendors and I got some pins, a magazine, a purse and a t-shirt! But better, I got to meet people that worked with Elvis and knew so many cool things about him. This wasn’t like any other event I have ever been too where people kind of stay to themselves. Not at all! The fans all loved to meet each other and share stories and make plans for future events.
The shows were awesome too. We got to see all kinds of Elvises. Short, tall, young, old, light, dark, thin and wide – they came in all shapes and sizes! But they all had one thing in common, their love for the King of Rock’n Roll. I was very lucky that I was invited to the special fans VIP party on both Saturday and Sunday night. So I had a chance to see them sing and perform even more (from 7 until about midnight!) and better yet – I got to interview not one, not two, not three but FIFTEEN of them!
I have to say, they were all so nice and friendly so they not only wear Elvis’ style clothes and costumes and perform the songs, but they also are living examples of how much he loved his fans and I felt like a special princess all night, both nights, what a treat!
