Elvis Sighted 4 Times!

Before you start reading, I wanted to let you know that a lot of times when there is a long post like this, my sister Zanna helps me with the writing (ok, ok – I talk and she writes and edits as she writes). So I wanted to make sure that Zanna gets the credit.

My mom knows we love our movie days with old shows. My favorites are Audrey Hepburn, Fred Astaire and Danny Kaye and Zanna loves Gene Kelly. But most of all I Love Lucy and I especially love Elvis. We don’t watch any new tv and we don’t have cable but that is fine because I like the colors and the music and the stories in the older shows anyway. We have almost every Elvis movie and sometimes at night we pop corn and watch. It’s fun to see everyone singing and dancing and being happy in those movies. I see real people like this at events, like when I went to Maui to Awesomeness Fest. But I don’t see so many other people dancing or even walking with a skip in their step. I wish more people would. That is what I try to do, make people happy and remember just to have fun.

Because January is the month of Elvis’ birthday, many theaters played Elvis movies and many shows were available. My mom surprised me and my sister and we got 1 month of Classic Film Series to see Elvis on the big screen. We have the movies, but it was fun to go out and we learned so much on the way.

Week One: Viva Las Vegas

This week we took my brother Zachary. He likes to support what I like even if her has seen or heard it before and I love that about him. We found out that the theater we go to is haunted. It has a very long history too. There is a whole chapter in a book you can read about it here.  I want to read the whole book, so I put it on my wish list.

The theater is said to have been haunted by 3 different spirits. The first was an aged man with a goatee dressed is a blue coat and a fisherman’s hat. The owner himself reported sightings of “The Captain” as many at the theater refer to him. The second is a previous manager of the old theater. It is said that this spirit, Bill, was robbed and killed in the balcony by drunken tourists because he was believed to be a homosexual. The third is a young girl, believed to be between the ages of 9 and 12. She has been described as a friendly spirit who watches over the theater and all within it. There have been numerous reports of alarms going off in the middle of the night when no one had come near the theater at all, chandeliers swinging during and after performances, and “mists” or “orbs” showing up in random pictures taken at the theater. ~ Haunted Florida

Zanna took a picture from the balcony and it had 2 orbs and a shadowy outline of what looked like a person sitting in the chair.

There was a team of ghost hunters that went there are they got lots of pictures better than ours and people who know about it all added and wrote things too. So read this page, it’s really cool and so are the pictures.

Week Two: Jailhouse Rock

This week we too my grandma. She loves Elvis very much and is sad that she never had a chance to see him live. My mom took her to see Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck, but never Elvis. 🙁 We also went to the Clearwater Aquarium, home of the famous dolphin Winter. You can learn all about Winter by watching this movie, Dolphin Tale, a true story about courage, ingenuity, and never giving up. What I like most about this story is that people can come together and make a difference if they do not give up. Jailhouse Rock was great on the big screen and my grandma cried (a good movie cry).

Week Three: Clambake

This week we took our friend Bernie. Bernie is a really good friend of our family. He is one of the nicest people I know. He just bought a new kangen water machine and he has been bringing us alkaline water. It has been giving us all so much energy!

Bernie was a teenager at the time of Elvis and he remembers things that look like this; the cars, the clothes, the girls hair styles. Our favorite part is the ending when they are driving in Florida but you see the mountains behind them. Where do such mountains exist here? LOL  Luckily I have been to Hollywood too, so I recognize the Malibu hills in the background. As we were leaving the theater, the manager was talking to us about the history of the theater and we met several ladies that were a part of the Elvis fan club. They were surprised to see me and my sister there, but my mom quickly told them that we are fans too and that the week before we were 3 generations of Elvis fans at the theater. The ladies seemed to like that and they shared some of their stories. It was fun to take Bernie, and we showed him the aquarium on our way out of downtown and now he is going to take his grandson there.

Week Four: King Creole

This is the only Elvis movie I have not seen before. Our final day at the cinema ended up being a NO GO 🙁 So, sadly I have to report that I have still NOT seen King Creole. I put it on my WISH LIST and hope that it will come sometime as a surprise package in the mail. I manifest that way a lot and good things always happen.

I love the movies, especially on the big screen and in an old theater (a cool one with some history and old people with a lot of stories!) My mom says my grandma used to pull her out of schools sometimes to go to the movies and my mom loves old movies. My mom made a funny video about this at her site.  I know she got it from her mom and now, I love old movies too. Some of my friends think that black and white or even silent movies are weird or boring. But I like them. I do like the color ones more, but it’s all good. They made things different back then. The actors had to sing and dance and everything was so colorful.  My sister spends a lot of time behind the camera and editing and now I understand why. It’s art and I am grateful that this art is alive in my family.

More on Elvis events coming soon.

Ultimate Elvis Birthday

Never found a four leaf clover to bring good luck to me
No rabbit’s foot no lucky star no magic wishing tree
But I got lucky, yes I got lucky
When I found you, oh yeah!

~ Elvis, I Got Lucky

Yes, I got lucky AGAIN. Not only did I have 4 weeks of Elvis at the movie theater, but I also got to see two live Elvis shows just days in between each other. Last Thursday we saw Elvis Lives! which you can read about at this link. And then today, we saw Elvis – Ultimate Elvis Birthday which featured 2 Elvis tribute artists. Here is what they say about the show:

The “King of Rock and Roll” returns! Once again, “Elvis” will be in the house. This show brings us the best of both worlds: Scot Bruce as the young Elvis that rocked the music world with swiveling hips and bedroom eyes, and Mike Albert, the glitzy, charismatic, polished Las Vegas professional. The Big “E” Band re-creates the authentic Elvis sound for this rock ‘n’ roll afternoon. From Love Me Tender and Are You Lonesome Tonight? to All Shook Up, Jailhouse Rock and It’s Now or Never, Elvis left an indelible mark on American popular music. Starring Scot Bruce, Mike Albert, and the Big “E” Band.

This time we took my grandmother and my brother and the Elvis’ stayed after the show to meet people, give hugs and sign autographs. They were both so very nice and again, it looked sold out with so many dedicated Elvis fans. People stood up many times and they made a tribute to the veterans. My mom and grandma cried again, but they were happy tears. This time I also saw more children too. From 1-100, everyone loves the King of Rock’n Roll! And I love Elvis too. It was a very good show and it’s so cool to see so many different Elvises, all of them have something special. 🙂

Here is more about today’s tribute artists, Mike Albert and Scot Bruce.

It’s been an amazing month of Elvis and I am so grateful that my family likes the things I like. Thank you Mama, and thank you all you Elvises, for keeping the King’s music alive.

Elvis Lives!

Wow, things are just getting cooler and cooler. My mom said that a lot of the time I am focusing on events and interviews and she wanted me to just have fun so this month has been a month of surprises. I reminded her that I have fun doing the events and interviews ;-). But Elvis is always a very special surprise. Yesterday my mom announced that we had an adventure to go on. We met my grandmother and went on a one day road trip. The destination, an Elvis tribute show!

Here is my special video of the show:

This is a video preview of what the show is about:

Here is the tour and show website, Elvis Lives! The Ultimate Elvis Tour

Oh my gosh, we had such fun. They had a bunch of Elvis pictures on display and you can see me and my sister and grandma above. There were so many people there and all of them were huge Elvis fans. They were wearing special hats, shirts, dresses. They carried purses and bags and had pins. I have never seen so much Elvis stuff in one place in all of my life! I was the only little girl there and so many of the people came up to talk to me and ask me about Elvis. They said they wished their grand daughters and great-grand daughters would like Elvis too. They were all so nice. From the shows website:

ELVIS LIVES is an unforgettable multi-media and live musical journey across Elvis’ life featuring four finalists from Elvis Presley Enterprises’ annual worldwide Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest. The cast members include Bill Cherry, Ben Klein, Kevin Mills and Victor Trevino, Jr., each representing Elvis during different stages in his career. The Elvis tribute artists will be joined by a live band, back-up singers, dancers, along with an Ann-Margret tribute artist, as well as iconic imagery made available from the Graceland archives.

The show was amazing. It told the story of Elvis through his music and they have 4 Elvis tribute artists to play the parts. They were all REALLY good. The end was my favorite and the last Elvis sang and moved the best. My mom and grandma both cried when he sang Glory, Glory Hallelujah and it was a tribute to all of the veterans. So many old gentlemen stood up and they got a standing ovation.

I have been to other shows before and I really like theater – but this was the best show I have ever seen, ever, ever. I think it was because of the fans. My grandma was singing and dancing in her chair. There were thousands of grandmothers singing and dancing and they all looked so young and happy listening to the music and being there.

I know I missed the time of Elvis, but his energy and spirit lives in the music. All over the world, people still love and listen to Elvis and his shows, his music and movies and even Graceland, his house, sees more and more people very day. I wish I would have got to interview at least one of them, but you know what they say “Ladies and Gentlemen, Elvis has left the building….” Maybe next time.

I am so grateful that my mom shares things from her life with me, and my grandma too.

My favorite Elvis was Bill Cherry. Here is an interview with him I found on youtube, Bill Cherry Interview. And here is a promo video with his awesome singing. His voice is so nice. (Bill, where is your website? My sister Zanna should make you one) 😀

I loved Victor Trevino Jr. too. He had the moves! Here is a clip from youtube that I really like and here is his website.

I am so blessed to have such awesome and amazing adventures. Thank you so much mama, I love you.

Interviewing Brian Scrone from Board Meetings

Here is a quick interview I did at Awesomeness Fest with Brian Scrone of Board Meetings. The day after Awesomeness Fest Brian and his partner Jim took out the Awesomeness Fest attendies and they spent the day teaching us all how to surf! It was my first time surfing and lots of other peoples too, but by the end of the day we were all surfing like pros! I thought that was really nice that they took us all out surfing! 🙂 It was lots of fun because when we first got into the water we were all kind of wobbly and we fell too, but Brian, Jim and their helpers were right there to guide us, show us all of the tricks and even hold our hand if we needed it. Once we got the hang of it, we were all doing awesome and everyone stood up! (I know it is because we had such awesome teachers). It was so much fun and an adventure I will never forget. Sorry about the wind – this was before I had my new awesome microphone and camera!

Mission “Character is Magnetic”

Zanna & Zynnia wanted to get creative with spreading the message of our friend Mr. King, whose website teaches youth about truth, integrity, values & character. We visited random parking lots where the girls stuck NON HARMFUL magnets to the vehicles and then we would sit and watch how the people would react as they discovered the messages. It actually prompted several very inspiring conversations about volunteering, how kids no longer have “old fashioned fun” and people showed a generally happy and pleasantly suprised attitude. We had a lot of fun doing it.
